Physiological Measurements Department
The Department is located off the ground floor corridor of the Gilbert Bain Hospital. If you have an appointment please go to Out Patients reception. If you wait longer than 15 minutes past your appointment time then ask at the Out Patients reception. If you arrive without an appointment then ask at the reception to speak to Chris Brown. If phoning, please leave a message on the answer phone and Chris will get back to you.
The Department provides a Physiological Measurements Service for patients in Shetland who are referred by a doctor. Below is a list of the tests currently performed with links to explanations of each test:
- Ambulatory Blood Pressure
- Holter - Ambulatory Electrocardiogram (Arrhythmia Monitoring)
- Echocardiogram
- Exercise Tolerance Test
- H. Pylori Breath Test (The 13C Breath Test)
- Spirometry
The Department also looks after patients with pacemakers and other implanted cardiac devices. Usually a written appointment is sent to you, however do contact Chris Brown if you wish to change it.
