NHS Shetland Initiatives
A number of important initiatives are underway in NHS Shetland that will help transform healthcare in the islands.
- 2020 Vision - a NHS Shetland initiative to map out the long-term future of healthcare in Shetland
- Community Planning is about public, private and voluntary organisations
working together to improve services across Shetland.
- Dementia Services Redesign Project
- Electronic Clinical Communications Initiative (ECCI)
- this is part of the move towards creating electronic patient records - where all a patient's medical information, whether
from a hospital or their GP, is held on computer and available to healthcare professionals with the relevant passwords and
security clearance. The ECCI project is aimed at improving communications between health care professionals, in particular
between hospitals and General Practice, by using Information Technology. Topics being developed at Shetland include:
Installation of a computerised Outpatient Management System; Implementation of Immediate Discharge Documents from the
Wards; Giving access to e-mail for all community nurses; Enabling patients seeing their GP to choose their outpatient
clinic appointment time; Linking laboratory result reports from either the Gilbert Bain Hospital or from Aberdeen directly
into the GP's computer program holding patient data, called GPASS.
- Equality & Diversity
- Information Governance
- Joint Future - The Joint Future agenda seeks to promote the joint management and delivery of community
care services, with services to older people as an early priority. The policy is designed to: facilitate better outcomes
for people who use services and for their carers; ensure better use of resources with decisions on their deployment which
are transparent and according to shared priorities; create better management of services, where appropriate under single
managers; and develop better systems with less bureaucracy and duplication and clearer responsibilities, all designed to
best suit local circumstances.
- Managed Clinical Networks
- NHS24 - this 24-hour health advice and information
service is being introduced to Shetland.
- North Of Scotland Tele-Education Project
- Patient Focus Public Involvement
- Risk Management
- NHS Shetland Staff Survey 2008
